Russell-Fields Pier

By William E. Males

For those visiting Panama City Beach and wanting to literally tackle the area, fishing tackle that is, there are several tried and proven fishing piers all along the coast from Escambia and Santa Rosa to Bay and Gulf Counties. They range from the ones extending a few hundred feet, to the bigger ones like Russell-Fields Pier, also known as the City Pier, in Panama City Beach. It’s the longest pier on the coast, extending 1500 feet. That’s almost a third of a mile out to the deeper blue water.

The possible catches here on the Emerald Coast range from killer cobia, king and Spanish mackerel, flounder, red fish, pompano, and much more just to name a few. The day we were there they were catching some sharks as well. Being out that far on the water sure makes for a scenic view of the beach and incredible sunsets.

Located directly across from Pier Park, this pier is ideally situated. So, whether they want to go shopping, dining, swimming or fishing, here’s one spot promising a day of fun for the whole family.
